LICK is a multi-media project involving sculpture, photography and writing that documents wounds and the good that can manifest through the healing process.
This body of work consists of metal, silcone, and mixed media wound sculptures worn by different people as badges of courage and honor, reflecting universal life experiences. While the portrait photographs give the sculptures context, their permanent homes lie in pristine vitrines – a reliquary leaving behind the wound and instead focused on the beauty found in growth through difficult or enlightened times.
This project was made possible in part with the generous contribution of time and support from the following people and organizations:
Lucien Knuteson: photographer
Mae Emerick: editor (for the book)
Anne Sellery and Shawn Shelton: make-up
Sarah Traver: book design and layout
Katy Brooks: typography (for the book)
Michelle Smith Lewis: post production photography assistance
Artist Trust: GAP grant
Catherine Grisez
Victoria Heemstra
Morgan Houghton
Lizzy Melton
Lorelei Robinson
LICK is a 55 page, full color, soft-cover book containing images (10 portraits and 10 detail shots) paired with stories and poems to reflect the sentiment of each sculpture by a variety of different authors.
The book is currently sold out - join my email list for info on future printings.
